So I find out that an AT&T/SBC internet technician came by yesterday and merely checked the DSL connection to the outside of the apartment building that I live in. They didn't contact me until this morning with a recorded message. I had to call them back and schedule an appointment with one of their technicians to come this Tuesday. This time they will come to my unit and check the wiring and their DSL modem. If everything is okay then they want to charge me, or my landlord, for fixing the wiring in the building. I have a feeling that I'm going to end up with a cable modem.
The new HP notebook is doing great. I've only had an application hang on me once and was able to cancel it with Ctrl+Alt+Del. So its working the way it should plus the 512mb of RAM seems to be enough for the moment. Maybe later I shall put a GB in there for better performance.
